Captured after the surrender of the Bataan Peninsula in April 1942, Strickland survived the infamous Bataan Death March only to perish in the harsh conditions of the Cabanatuan Prison Camp on July 29, 1942. His remains were finally identified on December 20, 2023, by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), bringing closure to a long and painful chapter for his family and community.
